Sandua is my newest outdoor collection for Manutti.

The collection combines teak wood and an innovative weaving that creates a fusion of nature, tradition and contemporary design.

Under the concept of contemporary design meets Nusantara we designed those houses from architecture to interior and custom furniture. Beside multiple casting forms we had to create to bring a rattan chair into this simple shape, we also created our own custom tools, similar to those usually used for wood shown on this poster. #bintarodesigndistrict

Millennia of traditional craftsmanship combined with modern design. Since rattan often is seen as an old fashioned material I made it my mission to pull it away from this image and show how much more it can be. The art of weaving has fascinated me since childhood. During my projects and professional engagements in Indonesia, I actively sought guidance from skilled weavers in various productions to teach me weaving skills. In the process of developing the Sandua collection for @Manutti, the initial exploration for the optimal weaving technique proved elusive. Both Manutti and I shared the vision of instilling fresh innovation into the weaving process during my visit to their production facility.
This quest led me to explore Manutti's Material storage, where I discovered a distinctive flat wicker material primarily used for packaging purposes. Intrigued by its potential, I experimented with this material, creating a small weaving patch through a process of trial and refinement. The result was immediately appealing, prompting us to find more from storage, just enough to weave the distinctive weaving pattern for half a chair.
I am elated that my enduring interest and few weaving skills, honed over the years, contributed to the development of this innovative weaving technique. Subsequently, we refined the flat wicker into a professional-grade weaving material that imparts the Sandua collection with its unique aesthetic.

While proficiency in digital design is imperative, the true essence of a product manifest more authentically when using our hands. Interior Design for @st_louis_cafe in Cologne, Germany. While most cafe designs in Cologne are rather conservative we are happy that we introduced a fresh and contemporary design for Cologne. Beside contemporary shapes we integrated natural oakwood to create a more cozy atmosphere and honored the buildings architecture by exposing some of its original bricks is mix with a contemporary shape and we were giving a new life to the old typical cologne style terazzo floor that was hidden under another floor. Store design for @eigeradventure first store outside of Indonesia in Interlaken, Switzerland. The Indonesian market leader in outdoor fashion and gear picked its first location to expand of course in Interlaken, the world famous city on the edge of the Eiger mountain. Combining two of my biggest cultural inspirations, Switzerland and Indonesia, was a special pleasure. Realizing this project we used all local materials and for the special eye-catcher we created a stone tunnel to bring the spirit from up the mountain down to the store in the city. In the last weeks I was taking care intensively of mu Isun Mirror design for upcoming collection on @nuana_original. A design that was too delicate to produce for many rattan factories in Indonesia. After two years of developing it into perfection splitting and joining the rattan without the usage of any nails or screws we are now in the final steps of our first mass produced batch. We developed a smooth natural finishing as well as a multi black town finishing that keeps the look of the rattan even in dark color. In this picture you can see the Sandua Daybed, one out of 6 items in the collection. The inspiration for this item I took from a traditional Indonesian rattan chair. During my stay in Indonesia I had the chance to develop the unique weaving of the chairs with my own hands. Its a mixture of synthetic wicker and rope in a pattern that was not made before. The base and legs are made from wood while the backrest is woven from natural rattan.
